This is where to find what we are doing for the week in class. Also stuff like links for notes, worksheets, and handouts will be posted here and eventually in the appropriate pages like "General Art Stuff". If any there questions or links don’t work, contact Ms. Schmit asap so she can fix them.

Dates to keep in mind...

End of Year Testing Schedule
  • M 101 will be the “main” AP mobile room so that’s where students report each morning to be assigned to their test location in the mobiles.
  • Last day for regular bell schedule 5/20 (A Days) and 5/23 (B Days)
    • All art work should be taken home by the of those days!
    • Any art work left on campus after 6/7 will be thrown away
  • Last day for late/regrade work May 27th!
  • Last day for Greenware (Ceramics) 5/5 - if it's not on in the kiln room by end of that day.
  • Last day for Glazing (Ceramics) 5/12- if not on shelf by end of the day, it won't get fired!

  • Student Art Show Closing Event: Saturday April 2 12:30-1:30 in the gallery entrance to the Auditorium.
  • Wednesday is an Early Release Day: Schedule
  • Thursday: start day by going to Homeroom for SEL
    • This week: Complete both surveys linked above in the website banner.

  • Continue working on personal series. Check Canvas for upcoming assignments and due dates so you can plan and work accordingly 
A1/A2 Ceramics Beginning- Complete the following by the end of the week
  • Complete Mask Planning Part 4- trace drawings onto paper
  • Recycle Clay
  • Build Mask Armature
  • Submit Rehearse Mask Planning Assignment (Parts 1-5 from Mask Unit)
  • Note about next week: I for some reason got it in my head that we had 2 weeks until spring break. It's actually only 1, so next week you'll get to make a free project and hopefully use up the rest of the recycled clay. That way we'll be ready to start building masks with new clay when we get back from break
A2 AP Art History
  • Unit 7: Lecture 1, Lecture 2, Lecture 3 Required Works
  • Unit 8: Lecture 1, Lecture 2, Required Works
A3 Sculpture IPA
  • Tuesday:  Alexander Calder Documentary (ties into our next unit)
  • Thursday: Intro To Wire
B1 Metals/Fibers IPA
  • Monday:  Alexander Calder Documentary (ties into our next unit)
B2 8th Grade Art
  • Continue working on Pop-up Project - have base, and 2 pages complete by the end of the week. Critique for project will be Friday Next week! Be ready!
B4 7th Grade Art
  • Unity Slides and assignment
    1. Google Definition of "Element of Art Unity" and write down definition
    2. Complete 10 Unity Thumbnail sketches (start with the ones in the Slides and then google image search for the rest)
    3. Complete a Unity Drawing - expectation is to be working on this until the end of class, not expecting it to be complete but do expect to see good quality and quantity of work for time given. Click Here for a video that shows you how to make one or you can make a design on your own. 
    4. Upload images to the assignment in Canvas the last 5 minutes of class.

General Announcements

Fix Your Grade Day
  • All classes will do this Monday/Tuesday this week
  • If you're grade is Fixed before the end of class, work on this till the end of class:
Last Day for Late/Regrade work: Tuesday March 22 before midnight!
  • Once documents lock- they're locked and stay locked. No late work will be taken after that date/time, no exceptions. 

Class Work 

SEL: Students can complete the survey independently or during a live virtual and/or in-person session. 
  • All students will go to: surveys.panoramaed.com/cms
  • ​Students will enter their access code. Their access code is their Student ID. Students will then see the surveys they need to take.
  • Students need to hit the blue “Submit” button to enter their survey. If they do not hit this, their responses will not be saved.
  • ELL Students: The online survey will be available in 10 languages. 
  • Burmese, English, French, Nepali, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese
  • ​Students with IEPs: Where possible, accommodations should be made to support all students. You can find some suggestions for ensuring accessibility here, including a video with instructions for enabling text-to-speech. 
  • It’s okay to read the survey questions aloud! 
  • ​Students should answer survey questions independently without prompting or influence. 
  • Teachers can explain vocabulary. If a student does not understand a question, they should skip it.
7th Grade Art
  • Movement Assignment
    • Movement Slides: Take 10 minutes and create a thumbnail sketch of each image. Goal is to try and capture the movement you see in them.
    • Google "Principle of Design Movement" and spend 10 minutes taking notes on what it is and how to create it.
    • The rest of class create a more careful drawing that demonstrates movement.

Advanced Sections
  • I moved Project 6 to Q4- make sure you get it in by due date to stay on track.
  • This week focus on getting all work you've got submitted. If you don't know what to turn in or need help with your grade let me know BEFORE the end of the day Tuesday and be ready to show me ALL your Artwork you've made this quarter- even if it wasn't for your series.
  • Reminder: you should be keeping all your projects so they can be displayed during the Advanced/Senior Art Show coming up during May.

  • Thursday: Watch Metamorphosis II Documentary - Take and turn in notes for daily work today (it will count as a Rehearse Assignment for Q4)
  • Next week: Finish Mask Project PLANNING- due at end of class, can start making Armature if you are ready to move on ;-)

    • Located in the NWSA Art Gallery just outside of the auditorium.
    • ​Big Closing Ceremony Saturday April 2nd 12:45-1:45, just prior to the Matinee performance of Sister Act. If people would like to stay and support the show, more info will be coming about when/how to purchase tickets.

A1/A2 Ceramics Beginning
  • Tuesday- "Free" Project Critique: during class everyone will evaluate a peer's project. Use buttons up top to access basic rubric and guiding questions/topics. Expecting 1 paragraph for each Key, honest and considerate feedback, applying visual language (vocabulary). 
    1. Set up- place project and artist statement from warm-up at your seat; have everything else put away
    2. Trade seats and evaluate their project using the buttons linked above to help you give them detailed feedback. Write Critiqued By and your name on their paper
    3. Submit it for the Canvas Free Project Critique Assignment before you trade back.
    4. When you and your partner are finished: traid back, read what the person wrote and write a brief reflection at the bottom (what are you going to do with their feedback?) Continue working on project with any time left till the end of class
  • Thursday- LAST work day for Free Project- have in kiln room by end of class.
A2 AP Art History
  • Tuesday: Fix your grade day- evaluate your progress check FRQ's for Unit 5, work on test corrections for Unit4 exam, finish "cards". Last 20 minutes of class go over some shortcuts to a well written essay. Must be logged in to your school google account for this link to work: Quick Essay Tips
A3 Sculpture IPA
