Intermediate, Proficient, Advanced

General Expectations for each level . . .

Intermediate: Take what you've learned in Beginning course and demonstrate more refined understanding and demonstration basics of skills, creative thinking, EoA and PoD for ALL projects.  
Proficient: Similar to Intermediate but taking everything to the next level while also exploring the Postmodern Principles. 
Advanced: Throughout the year you will develop a portfolio of work centering around a thesis. Thesis is due by the end of 1st week of classes- you can modify it as you go if needed. There is no "free time", you should be utilizing ALL class time for developing your work. How you do that is mostly up to you; however you are expected to have planning and projects done and submitted on the due dates for the projects listed for intermediate/proficient. If that much freedom is overwhelming, just complete the expectations for Proficient but incorporate your thesis and double the size requirements 

What to generally expect for all Units . . . 

The process for each unit follows the same basic format. Here is what to expect to do with each:
All Unit content relates to Theme​
Part 1: Planning is all about building background knowledge, practicing new skills and developing ideas for how to apply all of the new things you learned.
  • Featured Artists (1-3)​
  • Element of Art  and Principle of Design
  • Media and/or Skill Focus
  • Practice Project
  • Plan of Action (plan for creating Main Project)- taking what you've learned so far and apply it to creating the Main Project design challenge that includes a series of tasks that involve brainstorming, research, and sketches
Part 2: The Main Project is all about applying what you've learned, reflecting on successes and challenges, and giving/receiving constructive feedback (aka Critiques)

Midterm- Review and exam (last 2 weeks of Q2)

  • What will be on the Midterm Exam?
    • Elements of Art: Texture, Shape, Form, Value, Space
    • Principles of Design: Contrast, Proportion, Rhythm, Movement, Emphasis, Balance
    • Media: Ink, Graphite, Charcoal, Colored Pencils and Paper
    • Art Skills/Processes: Zentangle, Perspective Drawing, Tessellations, 3D Paper Sculpting, Still Life, and Notan.

3rd Quarter
7: Color, Unity, and Watercolor

8. Repousse and metal sculpting
9. Hand Lettering
4th Quarter
10. Art of the Selfie - Portrait Unit

12. Final Project

Final Exam and Review (last 3 weeks of Q4)
