Ceramic Slab Buildings Unit

Goal is to design and create a building using mainly slab construction. Be sure to keep in mind size requirement, what culture it's representing, the time period it was made, and what function it is serving as you work through the design process. Track your design process using a google doc of your choice. Groupe everything as it is presented below, but you can complete them in any order ;-)
Research
Part 1: See how others' have tackled a similar problem. Watch the video and respond to the following...
  • Compare/Contrast the 1-10-100 hour buildings how are they similar? Different? What details made each work in their own way? what made the biggest difference to make each look more finished?
  • How do they identify and deal with problems/challenges that come up? What things could they have done differently with the 1 Hour house to get it to turn out looking more complete (how cloud she use her time more wisely)?
  • What materials do they use and how could you use similar techniques with clay? (Describe them step by step).
Part 2: Collect Source Images. Look up photographs of real buildings to serve as inspiration for your designs (even if you want to tackle something fantastical). Copy/paste images into a google doc of your choice.
Keep: Culture, Time Period, and Function in mind!

Brainstorming
Need to spend a minimum of 20 minutes on Brainstorming total- how and what that looks like depends on you and your design ideas. Below are some ways to get started...
  • If you were a building what would it be and why? (Free writing prompt)
  • What's your favorite building from a movie, show, or cartoon - how is it important to the story? what makes it unique? what details must be included for audience to know what it is? (Free write, or word web)
