Ceramics IPA - Unit 1 Basics Bootcamp

Fri-Tues 9/4-8: Last workday for Who I Am unit - Submit by end of class ; Also submit Week 1-2 Prepare (Read assignment descriptions and follow the instructions left there ;-) -
Wed-Thurs 9/9-10: Unit 1 - Basics Bootcamp - start Project 1: make something that's, wider than it is tall, uses exactly 1 lb. of clay, and completed by end of next workday.
- Keep in mind... Project and notes 1-6 will submitted together as "Unit 1 Practice. At the end of the unit you'll submit your best glazed project of the group for "Unit 1 Main Project"
Fri-Mon 9/11-14: complete Unit 1 Project 1, add image to template and put in Kiln Room by end of class (name and block number on bottom, must be fire able); Note: "rejected" project will be on cart and can be modified (if possible) to meet firing requirements; otherwise can recycle IF you have pictures first.

Exam Schedule

All Teacher-Made A/B Day finals will be held from May 28 - June 3. This week is NORMAL full bell schedule.

Grades- have been updated today (May 18th) and will update again Thursday/Friday during class and will go help create catch-up plan for people who need it.
Last Day for Glazing - Friday May 22 (must be in kiln room or it won't get fired)
Last day to take home artwork Friday May 29th (any work left will be considered abandoned and be recycled or clamed as examples)
Last day for Late/Regrade work - Friday may 29th
Schmit's "Final Exam" will be making a Portfolio and it can be turned in early if you want ;-) The template is the same for all my classes but content should match the course you're taking. If taking more than one - can make one file but make sure you include full expected content for both classes and get it submitted in both canvas course ;-)

NWSA Awards for Q2-Q3 Announcment

Thank you to everyone who helped students navigate the Google Form! We still have about 200 awards waiting to be claimed. To ensure every student receives their recognition, please note the following:
Action Items

Google Form: Teachers please display the attached QR code/image in your room or on-screen for students who missed last week's pickup.
Deadline: Students must complete the form by next Thursday May 14th. After this date, unclaimed awards will unfortunately be recycled.
Final Follow-up: I will send one last reminder next week.

Distribution Process: Students do not need to go anywhere to collect their awards. To keep things simple:

I will sort all remaining awards by homeroom, based on the Google Form linked below.
Awards will be placed in Homeroom Teachers' boxes in the copy room next Friday Morning.

Mon 4/20 : Bust Project Sculpting Day 3/7 - refine massing of features (Day 1/2)
Wed 4/22 : Bust Project Sculpting Day 4/7 - refine details of features (Day 2/2)
Fri 4/24: Bust Project Sculpting Day 5/7 - Sculpt out hair (mass out hollow if needed)
Tues 4/28: Bust Project Sculpting Day 6/7 - Flex day - use as catchup day or for extra refining
Thur. 4/30: Bust Project Final Day 7/7! Prep for firing - Remove armature, thin out clay walls to 1/2 in thick and even throughout the project, make sure no air pockets are trapped!, clean up base so it sits un-supported, sign (inside towards the bottom. Place in Kiln room to start drying out. NOTE: last day to place in kiln room for firing is FRIDAY MAY 15th (this is a hard deadline so there it time for it to dry out and get fired before the end of the school year).

Ceramics and Sculpture: Portrait or Bust Unit - Ceramic Bust Unit

Fri 3/27: Complete this worksheet based on the YouTube video linked in the document. READ instructions carefully and get as far as you can by the end of class. Turn in on canvas at the end of class- especially if you are not finished! This will be your first Rehearse assignment for Q4.
Tues 3/31 and Thurs 4/2: Create Chain links - as many as you can with time given. There will be a demo in class on Tuesday. Prizes will be awarded for: Most links assembled, best craftsmanship, and Both Most links and best craftsmanship.
- Note: Be ready to start your Ceramic Celebrity Bust the day we get back from break. We're waiting till then to start just so your project doesn't dry-out over the break; be ready because you will only have a total of 5 classes to sculpt your project. The Chain Link assignment is leading into our last unit, Metal working, we'll be working with the rest of Q4 ;-)

Photography IPA - Cyanotype Quiz

Mon 3/9 and Wed. 4/1 : Create Accordion Pocket Book and Create a Flat-Lay- Self Portrait Photograph (can work on improving grade for Q3 instead; scores for these assignments will go on Q4; but plan on making up time missed as homework)
