Full Remote Learning Plan for Inclement Weather
Schmit's Inclement Weather Plan: 
  • Class Work: Complete your class' tasks listed below for the date of Inclement Weather. Can work synchronously/asynchronously as long as attendance policy is followed.
  • Attendance: based on Daily Work assignment in Canvas for the same date (submit before 3:50pm that day to be marked present)
  • Ms. Schmit will have her zoom link open to  follow the class schedule posted in the link above. 
  • If you run into any problems and zoom is closed, or you can't access zoom, just contact Ms. Schmit as soon as you can (via email, Google Voice, or the day we're back in class).

B1 Metals and Fibers
  • Intro to Metal Arts Assignment (Continue to add to it this week)
    • Monday: Exploring Metal Arts Instructions: Add the following content to your group document we started last week
      1. Visit this site to create a general list of types of Metal Art Techniques: Britannica Article 
        • ​​Link to google doc version of article
      2. ​Spend 20 minutes exploring metal arts techniques (google it! look up images, find artists, articles, websites, etc- just see what you find)
      3. DOCUMENT your exploration- copy/paste images, write quick notes, copy/paste url's, etc.
      4. Spend ~ 20 minutes sharing/commenting what you found with your group on the google doc. Use the Comment Feature of Google Docs to communicate with each other.
B2 8th Grade Art
  • Alternative Self Portrait Unit
    • Monday- Complete Part 6 and add to daily work assignment
B3 Ceramics IPA
  •  Chess Unit 
    • Have both Queens made by the end of Monday, and 4 Bishops by the end of Friday.
A1/A2 Ceramics Beginning
  • 3D Tile Unit
    • Tuesday: Complete Part 4 by end of Class (Slides 9-15 most are examples ;-) 
    • Thursday: Complete Part 5 by end of class- can start with sculpting if you get finished early ;-)
  • Friday- finish anything that needs to be finished
    • Action Figure Coffin- must be done by end of class today (no exceptions)
    • Glaze any Bisqued Project- NEVER GLACE GREENWEAR!

      • Watch this video, take notes on their process (pause video about every 5 minutes or so and summarise what/how/why they are doing what they are doing, LISTEN for VISUAL ARTS VOCABULARY and how he applies it!) Submit notes by end of class to the Daily work Assignment.
        • If you finish early- create some designs for something you'd like to sculpt out of "garbage" like the artist in the video did. 
    • ​Thursday: Have Features Massed in by end of class

  • Q2 Letter to Mr. Raed's Classes
    • Read letter for information on options for improving Q2 and Q1 Grades. This is only for Mr. Raed's classes.

    • Get into groups of 3-4 to collaborate on completing the linked assignment. You only need one document per group but will all need to submit the assignment individually for credit.

General Announcements

Tuesday: no school for Students (Bad weather day, make up Feb 21st)

Classwork

  • Remote Learning Tasks for Today: click here if you were absent and respond to the prompts in your own google and share with your teacher to get credit for today's assignment.
  • Last Day for Late/Regrade work: Wed. Jan 19th
  • Reviews and midterms for ALL Classes
    • If your class isn't listed below check Canvas or Google Classroom for your instructions.
    • All exams can be taken remotely.
    • Students may retake and submitted no later than 5pm Friday January 21st to allow time for finalizing end of semester grades. 
  • If you are in Mr. Raed's classes there will be a letter posted here later this week with some options for alternative assignments you can complete next term. Unt till then, your best option is to complete as much of the assignments he has posted for you in Google Classroom. 
Metals/Fiber Arts

    • Feel free to write an outline for your essay before hand. Here's the prompt:
      • "The work shown is Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini c. 1647–1652 C.E. The work depicts a specific religious narrative in a way that is designed to elicit an emotional response from the viewer.Select and completely identify another work that references or depicts a specific religious narrative in a way that is designed to elicit an emotional response from the viewer."

General Announcements

  • Last Day for Late/Regrade work: Wed. Jan 19th
  • All classes will have a Midterm next week
    • all multiple choice questions
    • Covers Elements of Art, Principles of Design, and Art making processes covered so far- most classwork is relating to this to help start reviewing for it!
  •  I'll be out at least Monday-  so be sure to READ/LISTEN to ALL instructions I left for your section. If you have questions email me but don't wait for me to respond- be proactive and move on as best you can.

Class work this week

ALL Advanced Visual Art Sections:
  • If you need to see dates or portfolio requirements click HERE.
  •  Artist Website Portfolio instructions.
  • 4th Project due: This Friday Jan 14th. Also need your Artist Website Portfolio assignment in asap if not already.
  • Midterm Exam: will be an Essay about your portfolio journey so far. Instructions will be posted here before Friday so you can start working on it before Exam day. 
 B117: Visual Art Beginning, B-117 B2, B3, (2D MMA IP, Printmaking IP)
  • Go to your Google Classroom for class content and scores for class work- Ignore Canvas.
  • PowerSchool will be updated with your Overall Grade about every other week.
8th Grade Art
  • Principles of Design Booklet Unit- get as far as you can by the end of the week.
    • Take time to ready EVERYTHING before starting booklet
    • Expecting 4-6 pages completed each class; if you don't: you're either working too fast or overthinking things if you're getting behind.
    • The idea is you're APPLYING what you learn from the notes to the booklet activates.
    • Just recreate the booklets on your own- they don't need to be printed out
    • Take your time (craftsmanship counts, including with handwriting) and be creative with the overall design of yours! They are designed to be more than just worksheets.
Ceramics Beginning- (1A and 2A)

Classwork

Monday- teacher workday; no school for students
Tuesday- All Classes choose one of the following option (Must see obvious evidence of work happening)
  • Option 1: Check grades and work on missing assignments
    • If Prepare assignments (daily work assignments) are locked- they will stay locked. It's too late to turned them in. 
    • Rehearse and Perform should be unlocked and you can still turn them in. They will show up late but will not affect the score ;-)
  • Option 2: Continue projects from before break (if possible)
    • Some classes should have had your planning done before the break. If you did and ready to start your project go ahead and start on it.
  • Option 3: Complete a Zentangle using patterns you haven't used before
    • This is intended to be more than "busy work"- it's up to you to make it more personally meaningful- this could be brainstorming/testing out design ideas for a potential future project.
  • AP Art History- complete Unit 3 Progress Checks (should be split into 3 parts) this is just to get an idea of what you already know and give you an idea of the things you'll need to know about this Unit- be ready to go through it fast.
ALL Advanced Visual Art Sections:
  • Project 4 (Due Jan 14th)
    • Planning for 4th project should already be in.
    • Progress check for 4th Project Due Jan 7th (Rehearsal Assignment)

8th Grade Art
  • Portrait Unit should be completed at this point. Use Tuesday to get caught up if needed.
  • Starting Alternative Self Portrait Unit- Planning Part 1 and 2 should be completed by the end of the week. Add images of progress to the daily work assignments. There will be a rehearse assignment to submit all of the planning to be more formally evaluated, so keep an eye out for that next week.
Ceramics Beginning- (1A and 2A)
  • Glazing Projects
  • Action Figure Coffin Unit
    • Start Building on Thursday if clay is in- if not there will be an extended assignment instead.
Ceramics IPA (B4)- 
  • Wednesday- studio upkeep and intro to next unit

    • Continue to make progress have 2 (4 total) additional swatches completed by end of the week.
 Sculpture IPA
  • Bust Unit: all parts of the face should be completed now
