Week 2 8/23-28th

Update: 8/26

So this week has been crazier for me than last week- I honestly didn't think that was possible, but here we are. I hope it's been getting at least a little easier for everyone else. I'm way behind on emails and grading. I'm planning on getting grading caught up as much as I can today because that will probably help with a lot of the questions everyone has.
What do I do if Canvas, Powerschool, or NCedCloud don't work
  1. Stay calm, don't panic, take a deep breath, it's not the end of the world. I promise. I'm totally being flexible with everything this year. Nothing will be set in stone. Just keep doing your best and everything will be fine.
  2. Try logging into programs directly (google Login + "program name"
  3. Email Ms. Schmit (Call/text- if you don't have internet)
  4. Check class website- most of what we do in class can be found here as well. It's why I use it as a backup to all the school stuff ;-)
  5. Just do your best to keep up with what we're doing in class.
  6. When in doubt just make some art!
Attendance Issues: Common Questions and Answers:
What you need to do to be marked present:
  • Fill out my Google Attendance form (remember to click submit!)
How do you get this Google Attendance form?
  1. Attend Zoom Meeting
  2. Message/Email me asap if you can't get into zoom
  3. Call/Text my google voice number and I'll enter it for your-
What do I do if I was marked absent when I was "present" (aka doing classwork remotely)?
  • Email Ms. Schmit with your
    1. Full name
    2. what Canvas Course you are
    3. class period
    4. Date of the absence that needs to be corrected
  • yes, I really need all that info-It save me tons of time looking up info.
If you're wondering what to do this week here are some checklists that should help:
  • Monday (B-Day) /Tuesday (A-Day)
    • Review Who I Am Unit (in zoom class meeting)
    • Start Who I Am Project
  • Wednesday (B-Day)/Thursday (A-Day)
    • Work day on Who I Am Project
  • Friday (B-Day)
    • Work Day on Who I Am Project
  • If you complete your Project before the end of the week here are your options
    1. Create a Spark Video about your "Who I Am Project"
      1. Adobe Spark is free for all students and teachers, just google it to find out what it is and what it can do! It's how I've made all my videos you've seen this week. Its really easy and fun to use ;-)
    2. Work on your own artwork
    3. Make a second "Who I Am Project". Now you know what it really can do, and know what you would change/add if you got another chance to make it. So make it ;-)
THE WHO I AM PROJECT WILL BE DUE NEXT WEEK- I will be updating the date for it today, don't turn it in yet even if you're finished with it. Just turn in images in with your Progress Check this week instead.

Heads up- If zoom/canvas are down:

Attendance form is here. and check for updates on what to work on.
- Re-watch the video for the Who I Am project. Lots of people think they are done with the project when you are actually just done with the moquet. The project is not due till the end of the week.
Here's a link to the information and video if you can't get to them on canvas
Who I Am Unit

Still Confused about the Course?

I know a lot of people are still getting overwhelmed with how canvas works and are having issues with stuff being locked. If that's sounds like you, then watch the video below, it will probably help. ( I'll get it uploaded asap)

Recap of last week

  • The real focus of last week was learning how Canvas and Zoom worked. Everything else was really just a bonus. If you're behind or just getting started, don't worry you'll be able to get caught up this week.
  • We did intro'd the "Who I Am" unit and spent our work time for the week on making the Moquette.
    • Remember the moquette is just like a rough draft you write for ELA. It's an opportunity to practice and make sure stuff will work the way you think it will; as well as decide on any changes you may want to make between completing your moquette and starting the final version of your project.

 What to expect this week:
-Mon is a B Day-

  • The moquette should be done enough to move on to the actual project at this point- it doesn't have to be "finished".
  • For people who are super self conscious about their current art skills: I've posted some videos that go over some simple things you could do to help projects be a little more polished. If you've been in my class before, you've probably already seen them, but it's worth another look- usually something hits you a different way when you watch it again.
  • There is a video that goes over how to photograph (aka "document") your work.
    • At the end of each class period you should be taking pictures of your work. Also make a record of what you worked on and for  in your Art Log.
  • You will have your first "Progress Check" assignment (last week you could complete it for extra credit). This is where you will upload your images of your work progress from the week and your artlog as well. I'll have a video explaining more about what it is and how to do it on Canvas.
  • The Who I Am Project should be completed by the end of class Thursday for A-Day people, but Friday for B-Day people. If you want to spend more time on it you can have the weekend to finish it up but should be turned in no later than Tuesday next week.
    • Instructions for how to submit it are/will be on canvas.
